Reader’s Digest (Jan. 7) – Jo Baird’s dog, Becky, began having freezing episodes during “tummy-rubby” time, so they sought help from an academic institution. Fortunately, the team at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign detected an irregular heartbeat. After the team implanted a pacemaker, Becky never experienced another freezing episode—and she lived an additional seven years before dying of an unrelated issue.
