Dr. White is a clinical staff pharmacist.
Tell us about your background.
I grew up in Springfield, Illinois, and then as a teenager moved to a smaller northern suburb, McHenry. From there, I completed my undergraduate degree at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2008 and then moved to Chicago for pharmacy school at University of Illinois at Chicago.
How did you become interested in pharmacy?
As a small child, I knew I wanted to do something in medicine but was unsure exactly which field until my last year of undergraduate studies. My guidance counselor is actually the one who suggested pharmacy, and I ran with it.
What do you enjoy most about being a pharmacist in a Veterinary Teaching Hospital?
I have found over the years that I love all aspects of pharmacy from the ever-changing information, to helping people and their pets, to finding appropriate solutions for specific situations.
The best part of working at the medication dispensary is the interactions with the fellow hospital staff, the involvement in the education of students from pharmacy, veterinary and technician schools and the continual diversity of duties for the day. No day is ever the same, and there is almost always an interesting story to tell.
