Hot Weather Hazards for Pets

News-Gazette (Aug. 14) – Dr. Canaan Shores, a veterinarian with the urgent- and convenient-care service at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital, offers advice to help keep your fun-filled summer safe. Perhaps the most important warning Shores has for all pet owners is to never leave your pet alone in the car. β€œOn a sunny 70-degree-Fahrenheit day, the temperature in a car can rise to 100 degrees Fahrenheit within 20 minutes and will only continue to rise,” he said.
