Estrogen and Circadian Rhythms

PNAS (June 16) – Megan Mahoney, a professor of neuroscience at Illinois, comments on a recent study suggesting that low estrogen levels may exacerbate the consequences of prolonged nighttime light exposure by disrupting the circadian rhythm. She points out that the ovaries produce a variety of hormones including progesterone and others, which this study did not consider.
