Associate Veterinarian – Rowan County, NC – #8622
We’re seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join our dedicated team at the Rowan County Animal Shelter in Rowan County, NC.
This role is a unique opportunity to be on the front lines of lifesaving work in a high-impact, community-focused environment. The primary responsibility of this position is to perform spay and neuter surgeries for shelter animals prior to adoption, with additional duties including minor surgical procedures, physical exams, and prescribing treatments when our primary veterinarian is unavailable. You’ll also assist in developing and updating disease control protocols during outbreaks such as kennel cough, working closely with our existing veterinary team.
Our shelter operates with a deeply supportive and close-knit culture, where decisions are made with input from the people who do the work every day. We care about each other and about the animals we serve.
While the job can be emotionally demanding — especially when caring for victims of cruelty or neglect — the rewards are immeasurable. We’re proud to be a No-Kill facility and haven’t euthanized for space in many years. Every animal here has a chance, and every member of our team plays a direct role in giving them one.
Each year, we care for 5,000 to 6,000 animals, and we’ve made enormous strides in our live outcome rate, growing from just 20% to over 90% in the last decade. This success has been driven by transparency, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to compassion. Still, we know there’s more work to be done.
