Position Overview
The Dogs Inc Veterinarian plays an integral role in supporting the health and well-being of all program dogs, contributing both hands-on clinical expertise and collaborative insight to the organization’s medical strategy. Working under the guidance of the Senior Director of Medicine, this role combines compassionate, high-quality veterinary care with proactive communication, innovation, and partnership across departments. The Veterinarian is expected to balance clinical precision with team collaboration— ensuring every medical decision advances Dogs Inc’s mission to create and nurture extraordinary partnerships between people and dogs.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence
• Deliver exceptional veterinary care, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for all program dogs and eligible external clients.
• Perform a full range of surgical procedures and manage pre- and post-operative care to the highest standards.
• Provide timely response and intervention for medical emergencies, including after-hours coverage or coordination of alternate support.
• Conduct wellness exams, vaccination programs, and preventive health screenings.
• Collaborate with the Puppy Academy, Genetics & Reproduction, and Training departments to develop and implement protocols that ensure optimal health outcomes.
• Support whelping, neonatal care, and early puppy development as needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records, ensuring data integrity for both internal and research purposes.
Collaboration and Communication
• Partner with the Senior Director of Medicine to ensure consistent, evidence based approaches to animal care.
• Consult with trainers, kennel staff, and program leaders to align medical decisions with operational needs and the long-term success of each dog.
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with staff, volunteers, puppy raisers, and graduates regarding animal health, treatment plans, and preventive care.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary discussions, providing medical insight to support organizational goals and problem-solving.
• Represent the Veterinary Center in presentations, outreach events, or donor engagements as requested.
Operational and Organizational Contribution
• Participate in the ongoing evaluation and refinement of medical policies, procedures, and standards of care.
• Support the Senior Director of Medicine in data-driven decision-making, including evaluating treatment outcomes and identifying trends.
• Maintain awareness of current research, best practices, and innovations in veterinary medicine, bringing forward recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Contribute to the Veterinary Center’s culture of teamwork, respect, and lifelong learning.
• Ensure compliance with Dogs Inc policies, ethical standards, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
Leadership and Mentorship
• Serve as a role model for professionalism, compassion, and scientific integrity.
• Mentor veterinary technicians and support staff to enhance skill development and career growth.

Qualifications
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an accredited institution.
• Current Florida Veterinary License.
• DEA Certificate and appropriate insurance for handling-controlled substances.
• Demonstrated proficiency in diagnostics, surgery (soft tissue and orthopedic), and anesthesia.
• Strong communication, judgment, and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Dogs Inc and to the welfare of the animals entrusted to its care.
• Proven ability to work effectively across departments and with volunteers, clients, and external partners.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
• Ability to work in a clinical environment with exposure to animals, allergens, and standard veterinary equipment.
• Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds and handle dogs of varying sizes safely and confidently.
• Flexibility to work after hours, weekends, or holidays as part of an on-call rotation.
