There are many ways that you can make a charitable, tax-deductible gift to the College of Veterinary Medicine. Below is a list of ways to give. If you have any questions, or if you would like to discuss your gift ideas, please contact us!
Annual Gifts
Annual gifts contribute to the college in many different ways. You decide how you would like to make an impact depending on the fund you choose. Visit our Giving page to see our featured funds and descriptions of each.
Once you decide where to make your gift, you can choose to make a recurring, monthly gift. If your company or spouse’s company offers matching gifts, be sure to include that information as well—matching gifts can double, triple, or quadruple your gift!
Memorial Gifts
Commemorative gifts are a thoughtful way to honor a loved one while supporting a cause you believe in. Your memorial gift can establish an endowment, renew a scholarship, or help fund other projects.
There are several ways to establish a memorial gift, including:
- Making an outright gift to fund at any time
- Making a bequest in your will to provide funding after your lifetime
- Setting up an endowment to fund a special program or project in perpetuity
- How you or your loved one will be recognized
- Recognition for a memorial or tribute depends on the gift, but may include:
- Honoree’s name engraved on a plaque
- Building named after honoree, solely or along with other honorees
- Endowed fund named after honoree
- Scholarship named after honoree
Please contact the Office of Advancement to move forward with giving to any of these memorial gifts.
Endowed Funds
When you choose to donate to an existing endowed fund or create a new endowed fund, you are making a long-term investment in the future of the College of Veterinary Medicine. In an endowment fund, the principal is invested in perpetuity and only a portion of the investment’s earnings is spent. The rest of the earnings are channeled back into the fund, so that the endowment grows over time. Many of our college’s graduated classes have invested in the College by establishing endowed scholarships in honor of their class.
Endowments help fund:
- Scholarships and fellowships
- Faculty chairs and professorships
- Program support
- Visiting scholars/lectureships
- Research support
- and more
An endowment can be created through an outright gift, through a bequest in a will, or through a life income gift such as a charitable gift annuity or a charitable remainder trust.
For more information or to start an endowment, please contact the Office of Advancement.
Capital Gifts
If you are interested in improving the facilities at the College of Veterinary Medicine, then a capital gift might be the right gift for you. When you make a capital gift, you are investing in the renovation of and improvements in the instructional, clinical, and medical facilities at the College. Naming opportunities are available for some capital gifts. If you are interested in making a capital gift, please contact the Office of Advancement.
Planned Giving
Many donors choose to name the College of Veterinary Medicine as a beneficiary in their will, life insurance policy, IRA, or retirement plan. Please contact the Office of Advancement to discuss the numerous options available for making a planned gift.
Securities Gifts
To make a gift of publicly traded stocks or mutual funds via electronic transfer, please contact the Foundation Cash Receipts Department for delivery instructions at cashdesk@uif.uillinois.edu or (217) 244-2706.
The Foundation does not publish the delivery instructions in an effort to ensure proper identification of the donor transferring the gift; verify the name of the securities and appropriate number of shares to be received; and the designation of the gift prior to the transfer.
For mailing physical certificates, please send the certificate and stock power separately (for security purposes) to:
