News-Gazette (June 7) – One of the most common and serious heart conditions affecting cats is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which causes the left ventricle of the heart to become abnormally thick. “The thickening makes it difficult for the heart to adequately relax and fill with blood between heartbeats,” said Dr. Amanda Bentley, a cardiology resident at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Urbana.
