Life in Lynchburg

There is so much to love about this historical city! It played an important part in the Civil War as the Battle of Lynchburg was fought here, and it was a major transportation hub due to the enormity of the James River. It was also a quiet place of refuge for Thomas Jefferson, and the Thomas Jefferson Poplar Forest is a national monument today. And more history bleeds into today’s Lynchburg, as the Community Market that was started in 1783 is still alive and thriving! The Community Market is the 3rd oldest in the country and people still flock to it every Saturday! Along with the Market, Lynchburg is full of museums, gardens, historical cemeteries, art exhibits, historical buildings, and amazing restaurants! It is a wonderful place for families, as it is one of the safest communities in all of Virginia! Further, the Blue Ridge Mountains (with 369 miles of trails) border it, and Virginia’s largest River (James River) runs through it. With endless opportunities to hike, bike, tube, canoe, kayak, run, raft, and explore this stunning area of the United States, why would anyone ever want to leave?
