WCIA-TV (May 12) – Dr. Clarissa Pimentel de Souzaa and Dr. Lois Hoyer at the U of I’s College of Veterinary Medicine looked at why dogs with persistent yeast infections in their ears were not responding to treatments that previously had worked. They found that when yeast infections were treated repeatedly with antifungal drugs instead of treating the underlying cause of the infections (often, allergies), some yeast strains developed drug resistance.
