When did you begin working at the College of Veterinary Medicine?
I began working at the College of Veterinary Medicine in late 2013.
Describe your role at the college.
I am the medical director of Medical District Veterinary Clinic (MDVC) and a lecturer within Veterinary Clinical Medicine.
Have you held any previous titles or responsibilities at the College?
I started out as an instructor at the Chicago-based practice but was appointed medical director in 2014.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I enjoy multiple aspects of my job. I enjoy clinical interactions with students, but I also truly enjoy making connections with clients and helping improve their life by improving the life of their pets.
Complete this sentence: My most memorable day at work was…
…I honestly don’t have a most memorable day. Unfortunately the most difficult cases and tough clients tend to stick with those in our profession, and they do with me too. That being said, each day there are rewarding and fulfilling cases that I try to focus on. We have so many great clients at MDVC and I truly enjoy caring for their pets.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family (usually attending or coaching kids sporting events). My son is currently playing both basketball and travel baseball and my daughter is in gymnastics and ballet. I truly enjoy Illini sporting events and tailgating for Illini football games. I am also a Chicago sports fan and enjoy attending Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls games.
What is something your co-workers may be surprised to know about you?
My co-workers know most things I think, but new co-workers are always surprised when they hear that I am not into movies and have never seen any of the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter movies.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
I don’t really have a bucket list. I do wish to travel more, but also enjoy down time at home.
Do you have a favorite restaurant or place in the Champaign/Urbana area?
Since I live in the Chicago-land area, I do not frequent many restaurants in Champaign. During my time in Champaign 10+ years ago, I used to enjoy El Toro, Farren’s, and Black Dog Barbeque. I think they are all still open.
If you are ever in Chicago, I highly recommend catching a baseball game at Wrigley Field! And if you are a runner or biker, take a run or bike on the lake front path as the sun rises over Lake Michigan.
Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?
Most days I work out. Working out is a stress relief and is just a part of my day. I love getting up early before work and getting a workout in at the gym. In my mind this is the best way to start the work day. I don’t work out every day, but most days I try to.
Do you have any pets?
I have one dog, named Winnie. She is two years old. We adopted her from a central Illinois rescue group and she has become such a sweet girl.
