High-path Avian Flu in Illinois Birds

NBC 5 Chicago (March 12) – Highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly referred to as “bird flu,” was detected in a non-commercial backyard flock of non-poultry in McLean County, according to the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Samples from the affected flock were sent to the University of Illinois Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, and results were confirmed at the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa.
