Patch (Chicago; June 3) – Over the weekend, cybercriminals targeted JBS Foods International, the country’s second-largest meat producer. Officials say hackers accessed and encrypted the company’s computer systems, demanding a ransom in exchange for returning control to JBS. James Lowe, the director of the College of Veterinary Medicine I-Learning Center at the U. of I., says the disruption could lead to a nationwide meat shortage if it goes on much longer.
