Reception Honors Prof. Emeritus Ed Voss

[Ed and Virginia Voss]

Please let us know you are coming.

On August 25, at 11:30 in conjunction with the annual Voss Pathobiology Graduate Student Research Expo, the Department of Pathobiology will host a reception for Dr. Ed and Mrs. Virginia Voss and their daughter Cathy Voss-Treiber. Please join us to meet with Dr. Voss and his family and review graduate student posters submitted for this year’s Voss Research Competition. (The department requests that those planning to attend complete the form below so that organizers can gauge attendance.)

Dr. Edward W. Voss, Jr., joined the Illinois faculty shortly after completing his PhD at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Ind., and served at Illinois for 31 years before retiring in 1999. His distinguished career included being named a Jubilee Professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) in 1990, being a fellow of the Fellow American Institute of Chemists, and being a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Federation of American Scientists, and the American Association of Immunologists, among many other organizations.

The former professor of microbiology and director of the Cell Science Center in LAS was and remains an important supporter of graduate education at the College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2004 he and his wife, Virginia, established a fund to recognize graduate student research in the Department of Pathobiology. Each year the Voss Research Competition at the Graduate Student Expo supports the work of rising stars in pathobiology research.
