Get to Know Michael Spinella

Michael Spinella, an associate professor of comparative biosciences, has worked at the College of Veterinary Medicine for a little under a year.

To maintain a research lab, train students, and teach pharmacology.

Have you held other titles or responsibilities at the college?
I am on the college’s research advisory committee and I am also a member of the new doctoral program committee

What is your favorite part of your job?
I like interacting with bright, enthusiastic students and colleagues. But nothing beats the high of getting a great experimental result!

Complete this sentence: My most memorable day at work was….
My most memorable day at work was my first day teaching, pretty exciting, and a little nerve-wracking. I think the students took it easy on me. I also got to put my hand inside a live cow; that’s something you don’t do every day.

What would your coworkers be surprised to learn about your life outside of work?
During my reckless youth, I went skydiving and bungee jumping. I am a big fan of baseball, especially the New York Mets. I enjoy movies and hanging out with my kids.

Do you have any pets?
We have a goofy border terrier named Alfie and a too-cool-for-school cat named Nubb.
