On November 20, faculty, graduate students, and staff attended a catered luncheon, held in the atrium of the Basic Sciences Building, to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. The occasion also served to recognize the winners of the college’s annual excellence awards. Several employees were recognized for reaching a 5-year anniversary of service at the University of Illinois.
Excellence and service awards were presented by Dr. Anne Barger, head of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine; Dr. Bob Rowland, head of the Department of Pathobiology; Dr. Uwe Rudolph, head of the Department of Comparative Biosciences; and Dr. Julia Whittington, director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
The winners of the annual college awards were:
- Shirley A. Seets Staff Excellence Award – Jenny Byrd, veterinary technician III, Veterinary Teaching Hospital
- Robert and Lucy Graham Staff Excellence Award – Emily Rolson, customer service specialist, Veterinary Teaching Hospital
- Terry and Judy Rathgeber Academic Professional Excellence Award – Sara Kennedy, director of finance, College of Veterinary Medicine (unable to attend the presentation)
- Dr. Walter E. Hoffmann & Dr. Ann L. Johnson Resident Teaching Excellence Award – Dr. Jose Ruiz Romero, resident, small animal internal medicine service, Veterinary Teaching Hospital (unable to attend the presentation)
- Dr. Gordon and Mrs. Helen Kruger All-Round Excellence Award – Dr. Jennifer Langan, clinical professor, Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine
- Dr. Gordon and Mrs. Helen Kruger Research Excellence Award – Dr. Weiping Zhang, professor, Department of Pathobiology
- Dr. Gordon and Mrs. Helen Kruger Service Excellence Award – Dr. Erin Long, lecturer, Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine
- Zoetis Animal Health Award for Research Excellence Award – Dr. Ying Fang, professor, Department of Pathobiology
