Veterinary Expert Offers Hands-on Fish Medicine Workshop Weekend
URBANA - Explore practical ways to keep pet fish healthy through an educational weekend with a leading veterinary expert.On October 24 and 25, Dr. Mark A. Mitchell, associate professor at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, will lecture on topics including fish anatomy, husbandry (water quality, filtration, and diet), diseases of fish, diagnosis, and treatment. There will be hands-on laboratories in fish anesthesia and diagnostic testing. The workshop will be held at the College of Veterinary Medicine, 2001 S. Lincoln Ave., Urbana, Ill.
The program includes handout materials, continental breakfast, and lunch both days. Register by October 11 for a $50 discount. Registration after October 11 is $300. Information is available at vetmed.illinois.edu/ope/fish/ or by calling 217/333-2907.
Veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians can obtain up to 15.0 CEUs by attending.
Workshop leader Dr. Mitchell heads the Companion and Zoological Animal Medicine section of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. He has been president of the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Medicine and now serves as the co-editor of the Journal of Exotic Pet Medicine and the scientific editor of the Journal of Herpetological Medicine and Surgery. He is co-editor of the Manual of Exotic Pet Practice, which was published in 2008 by Elsevier.
