Veterinary College to Host American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association National Symposium
URBANA - The preeminent nationwide assembly of pre-veterinary students will take place on the University of Illinois campus from Friday, March 20, to Sunday, March 22. Nearly 500 aspiring veterinary students--a record attendance--from about 30 colleges across the country will convene in Urbana for the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association National Symposium."This is the first time that Illinois has had the opportunity to host this nationwide event," said Jaime Reichert, an undergraduate at the University of Illinois majoring in animal sciences who chairs the host committee. "The committee and I have been working very hard for almost two years to make sure we do an excellent job at representing our university. We have set record attendance this year and have provided a wide variety of exhibitors from all over the world to speak with these pre-veterinary students. We think that the good publicity will have a huge effect on our College of Veterinary Medicine."
The event includes a wide array of informational lectures and laboratory demonstrations on topics ranging from veterinary forensics to rodent handling techniques to veterinary acupuncture. Students will also receive advice on how to successfully apply to veterinary colleges. Lecturers and laboratory demonstrators will include faculty members from the University of Illinois and other universities, as well as veterinary professionals from the private sector.
The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, the only veterinary college in the state, and one of only 28 in the nation, was selected to host this prestigious event by the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association.
