8th Annual Benefit Supports Wildlife Medical Clinic
URBANA - On Saturday, March 7, the University of Illinois Wildlife Medical Clinic will host its annual Doodle for Wildlife dinner and auction benefit, a real treat for celebrity aficionados and nature lovers. The Doodle fundraiser accounts for approximately half of the clinic's annual budget and is a great way to support our local wildlife and the veterinary students who care for them. This year's event will be held at the I Hotel, 1802 South First Street, in Champaign, Ill. There will be live and silent auctions of celebrity doodles from actors, entertainers, athletes, and musicians, including Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Dave Barry, William Shatner, Sarah McLachlan, and a host of others. Bidders can also compete for vacation accommodations, fine art, gift certificates, and more.
For a complete list of auction items and to reserve your seat, please visit vetmed.illinois.edu/wmc/doodle.html.
Terry Rathgeber, former associate dean for advancement at the College of Veterinary Medicine, will be presented with the annual Wildlife for Life Award for his influential role in keeping the Wildlife Medical Clinic in operation during its early years.
Guests can meet the clinic's resident birds of prey: Noel, a saw whet owl, Nokomis, a great horned owl, Odin, a red-tailed hawk, Pistol, and American kestrel, and Penelope, and eastern screech owl. Live music will be provided by No Comment, an a capella group.
The Wildlife Medical Clinic is a non-profit organization that provides care and treatment for more than 1,500 sick, injured, or orphaned wild animals each year for the purpose of returning them to the wild. The clinic provides hands-on training to nearly 100 veterinary students and educates the community about native wildlife.
Sponsors of the Doodle for Wildlife include Action Auction, Farmer's Market, Martin Graphics and Printing, and Sun Singer Wine and Spirits.
