University Veterinary Hospital Receives AAHA Re-Accreditation
URBANA - The University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital received confirmation of its accreditation status after a site visit from representatives of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) on Tuesday, October 14.AAHA is the only organization that accredits animal hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. AAHA-accredited hospitals voluntarily choose to be evaluated on 900 standards in the following areas: Anesthesia; Client Service; Contagious Disease; Continuing Education; Dentistry; Diagnostic Imaging; Emergency; Examination Room; Housekeeping; Human Resources; Laboratory; Leadership; Medical Records; Pain Management; Patient Care; Pharmacy; Safety; Surgery.
Approximately 15 percent of the small animal veterinary hospitals in the United States and Canada are accredited AAHA members, according to information provided by AAHA. The University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital is one of only eight such hospitals within a 50-mile radius of Champaign-Urbana.
Part of the state's only College of Veterinary Medicine, the hospital sees more than 15,000 animal patients every year and offers a range of specialty services from minimally invasive surgery and rehabilitation therapy to radiation and chemotherapy for animals with cancer and 24/7 emergency and critical care.
