Alfaxalone injection is currently on backorder. This includes Alfaxan® Multidose and Alfaxan® IDX. There is no available information on what is causing the shortage.
There are estimates by distributors that it will be available from mid-November to late December. However, these estimates change frequently.
If alfaxalone IDX comes back into stock first, it cannot be used off label because it is an indexed drug. There is currently only one supplier of alfaxalone in the United States, so sourcing from other manufacturers is, unfortunately, not an option.
