News-Gazette (Oct. 11) – In 2024, antiviral oral medications became legally available in the United States to treat feline infectious peritonitis, a disease previously considered nearly always fatal. Most cats that respond positively to the medications appear to do very well after treatment, although long-term data are still being collected. “The success rate is really high now, which is wonderful,” says Dr. Jennifer Reinhart, a small-animal internal-medicine specialist at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Urbana.
