Smith, an epidemiologist at the U. of I. – which still has its vaccination mandate – says the change might not make much difference to the wider community, but she’s glad Illinois maintained its mandate. “I know that the vaccine protects people, and even if it’s not effective at the community level, I want to see people protected,” she says.
