Debbie Cassout has worked as a Medical Technologist in the Virology section of the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab for over 21 years.
Describe your role at the college:
I work in the Virology lab performing multiple tests including rabies. I also take care of cell culture and the equipment needed to run the tests. Quality control/quality assurance and safety are also big parts of the job.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Every day is different and you never know what you will need to tackle when you come in. We have wonderful people at the VDL, so I really appreciate working with them every day.

Our boss hired a limousine and took us out to lunch after a particularly busy and stressful week.
What would your coworkers be surprised to learn about your life outside of work?
I don’t think anything too surprising. We like to go to Illini games and concerts whenever we can.
Do you have any pets?
We have a crazy, sometimes sweet, and always cute and entertaining 10-month-old silver lab named Deacon.
