Marco’s Story

Dear Friend,

Marco came into our lives in late November of 2008. He was lying in our backyard half-frozen, underweight, and needing loving care. We tried to find him a forever home but found no one acceptable. So, he became our fur baby.

For the first eight years, he was a happy, healthy and energetic companion. He accompanied his dads wherever they went – road trips, flea markets, festivals and family gatherings.

But then his health began to decline. He was diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease and six months later became diabetic. This caused him to lose his vision, which was restored with cataract surgery by the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the University of Illinois.

Later in his life, he had his gallbladder removed, bowel issues and suffered even more serious health problems.

We spent many hours in veterinarian offices during Marco’s last four years. Most of them were at the Small Animal Clinic at U of I. We witnessed how pet owners had to make difficult decisions about their pets’ lives because of treatment costs.

This was heartbreaking for us to see, and we vowed that if we had an opportunity, we would do what we could to help others in a difficult position.

And so in 2024, we created Marco’s Legacy Fund. We are helping families take care of their fur babies as we remember our beloved Marco.

Join us in our work healing furry ones. With one gift, you can help restore them to health and bring joy to their loving families.

Gratefully,
Kyle and Joe
