Dr. McFadden completed a bachelor's degree in zoology at the University of Texas at Austin and a master's degree in biology at Texas State University-San Marcos before earning his veterinary degree.
After a one-year internship at Louisiana State University, he came to the University of Illinois for a residency in small animal surgery, gaining board certification as a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He briefly joined the staff at VCA Northview Veterinary Specialty Services in Pittsburgh, before returning to the Illinois faculty in 2011.
His professional interests include general soft tissue surgery, including thoracic and abdominal procedures, surgery of exotic animals, oncologic surgery, microsurgery, and minimally invasive surgery.
