Dr. Mauria O'Brien helps to oversee the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She was in general practice for nine years after she received her veterinary degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She then completed a residency in small animal emergency and critical care at the Animal Emergency Center in Glendale, Wis., and earned board certification in veterinary emergency and critical care in 2008.
Dr. O'Brien's research interests encompass the role of vitamin D in immune health. In her role as a teacher, Dr. O'Brien says: "My goal is to give the students practical advice and to help them hone their skills and instincts as a clinician so that they are better prepared when they start their careers."
