Kami GrochowskiHello and welcome to the turtle-y awesome Cook County blog! You heard that right, this summer is the first summer that the Wildlife Epidemiology Lab will be working alongside Cook County Forest Preserve to save the world one turtle at a time!

My name is Kami Grochowski and I am a first year veterinary student from the University of Illinois. I graduated from Auburn University last spring with a B.S in Wildlife Sciences, pre-vet. I will be spending my summer in Cook County conducting health assessments and surveying diseases in musk turtles and softshell turtles. One of the coolest parts about this is that I am originally from Cook County, so doing research in the forest preserve I grew up next to is extra special to me!

I am very excited to include you all on my journey! I’ll be back with another update next week when I finally go out into the field and start collecting data. But before the fun begins, I need to survive finals week!

TTFN, Ta-ta for now!
