Every year, the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine hosts an Open House, where members of the public are invited to walk around the school and learn more about all aspects of veterinary medicine. This event is mediated largely by students, who sign up to staff different booths and talk about anything from parasitology to physical rehabilitation. This year’s open house was one for the books! Resident animals Derby, Thistle, Hazel and Bucket stood patiently at the WMC booth throughout the day, serving as ambassadors for their species and helping to educate open house visitors about what we do at the clinic. Resident animal handlers also gave two educational talks throughout the day going more in-depth as to what it takes to care for wildlife in the clinic as well as what goes into socializing, training, and caring for the residents. We love every opportunity to bring our mission to a large audience and were so happy to be a part of the event.
