    10. Where do I go for help?

  1. How do I get started using these Forms?

There are detailed instructions at the following website:
    http://www.cvm.uiuc.edu/vetstar/VTHForms/TemplateInst.html

For more help or to schedule a training session, please contact Vetstar help at vetstar-help@cvm.uiuc.edu.

  2. I don't have a shortcut to the Preliminary Reports directory. How can I create one?

Right click on an empty space on your computer desktop, and choose New->Shortcut from the Menu. Type this line into the Location field:
    \\Felix\VetStarUpload\PrelimReports
Click the 'Next' button, then type a name for the shortcut (such as 'VTH Preliminary Reports'). Click on the 'Finish' button and you're done!

If your computer cannot find these directories, it is probably not joined to the CVM-AD network. If you are using the Wireless connection or connected to the network from outside the CVM, you must first connect to the UI VPN client and then use the following for the shortcut:
    \\Felix.cvm.uiuc.edu\VetStarUpload\PrelimReports

Contact VTH desktop support at ds-vth@uiuc.edu for help.

  3. Why can't I run the Spell Check or Save for Vetstar macro?

If you are running Office 2007, the icons that used to be on the toolbar are now on the 'Add-Ins' tab.

Macros are embedded in the VTH forms for running the Spell Checker and saving the file for upload to Vetstar. If your computer has its Microsoft Word program's macro security set to Medium, you will be prompted to choose whether to accept the macros contained in the document (most of the computers in the VTH have the macro security set to Medium by default). Click the 'Enable Macros' button when opening your form to include the macros. (If you are using a VTH computer, the macros should be automatically enabled.)

If your machine has its Word macro settings on High or Low, you will not be prompted. If it is set on Low, the macro will copy over with no prompt and you will be able to run the macros just fine. However, if you have it set to High, you will again see no prompt, but the macro code will not be copied over and you will not be able to run them. To change the macro settings on your Word program go to the Tools->Macro->Security Menu, then select Medium or Low (Medium is safer). You may not be able to change this setting when in a locked form (the VTH forms are locked); open a new document, then change the setting.

If you are not logged into CVM-AD, you will not be able to run the Save for Vetstar macro (see FAQ number 4 below). You do not have to be logged in to the network to run the Spell Check macro.

  4. My computer hangs up, or gives me strange messages when running the 'Save for Vetstar' macro (such as 'Can't find file' or 'Permission Denied') - what's wrong?

You must be logged into the CVM-AD (the college's network) to run this macro - the program saves a text version of the file to a network directory for upload into Vetstar (if you are not logged in to the network, the program will not be able to find this directory). Most machines in the VTH should be joined to the CVM-AD and you will be logged in when you log into to the computer. If a VTH computer is not on the network, contact vetstar-help@cvm.uiuc.edu, or ds-vth@uiuc.edu. If you are using your own personal machine, save the file and open it on a machine that is on the network before running the Save macro.

  5. My computer stalls when printing to network printers!

Sometimes Word's background printing option can cause problems with network printing. To turn this off:

Go to the Tools->Options menu in Word. Click on the Print tab. Uncheck the 'Background Printing' box.

  6. My computer is starting to have problems when I'm using Office (stalling, locking up, etc). Is there anything that I can do?

  7. The form fields that I completed are cleared when I print!

This should not be an issue any more, unless you are using an old version of Word. The VTH computers should have updated versions of Word running (Word XP and Word 2003 work fine). But if you are using an older version, and you have this problem, you can fix this.

Go to the Tools->Options menu. Click on the Print tab. Uncheck the 'Update fields' box.

  8. My reference fields are not being updated.

Reference fields display information that you have entered into the form fields in other parts of the document. For example, the patient name that you enter near the top of the form is copied to the 'Thank You' line near the bottom of the form. They are updated when you print or print preview the form. This should not be a problem for the newer versions of Word (XP and 2003), which is installed on most of the computers in the VTH. If these aren't being updated when you print, check these settings:

Go to the Tools->Options menu. Click on the Print tab. Make sure that the 'Update Links' box is checked.

  9. When I click on the template link on the Web site, the document opens within Internet Explorer. How can I have the document open in Word instead?

This should not occur on the machines located in the VTH. If you have this problem with a VTH machine, contact the VTH desktop support. If you see this behavior and you have Administrative rights on your computer (or are running a pre-Windows 2000 computer), you may change this setting:
    For Windows 95 and 98:
    • Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
    • On the View menu, click Options (or Folder Options).
    • Click the File Types tab.
    • Scroll through the Registered file types list, select the Microsoft Word document type (DOC), and then click Edit.
    • In the Edit File Type dialog box, clear the Browse in same window check box.
    • Click OK.

    For Windows 2000/XP:
    • Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
    • On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    • Click the File Types tab.
    • Scroll through the Registered file types list, select the Microsoft Word document type (DOC, ), and then click Advanced button.
    • Clear the check box "Browse in same window."
    • Click OK, then Click Close.
