Dr. Chris Chase received his DVM from Iowa State University (1980) and MS (1987) and PhD (1990) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was an associate at the Viborg Veterinary Clinic, Viborg, SD for 5 years and continued his active involvement in clinical veterinary medicine for 25 years.  His clinical experience is with dairy, cow-calf, feedlot, and hog herd health. He has taught virology and immunology to undergraduate and graduate students for the past 30 years and agents of infectious disease to professional veterinary students for the past three years at South Dakota State University (SDSU) and is an emeritus professor at SDSU. He is the past president of the South Dakota Veterinary Medical Association (SDVMA), American Association of Veterinary Immunologists,  past chairs of the AVMA Council of Biologics and Therapeutic Agents (COBTA), Conference in Workers in Animal Disease (CRWAD) and the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. He was the South Dakota Veterinarian of the Year in 2009 and received the FO Butler Excellence in Research Award in 2010 and Outstanding Leadership in Undergraduate Research in 2011 from SDSU. He received the 2022 SDVMA Distinguished Service Award, the 2024 AAVI Distinguished Immunologist Award and was selected as a 2024 Fellow of the CRWAD.
