Welcome to The Won Lab
The mission of the Won Lab is to protect people and animals from inflammatory heart diseases, helping them live longer and healthier lives. Inflammation in the heart caused by microbial infections, autoimmune responses, or medications can lead to severe heart failure conditions or sudden cardiac death.
Research in the Won Lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms that drive inflammation in the heart and on identifying novel therapeutic targets for its prevention and treatment. In particular, the lab investigates the pathogenic role of key autoimmune players – self-antigens, autoantibodies, and autoreactive T cells – in the heart. The lab is also expanding its studies to explore autoimmune disorders in other organs beyond the heart, such as rheumatic arthritis, Sjögren’s syndrome, and lupus.
The Won Lab fosters an open and collaborative environment where people work together to advance knowledge in cardiac immunology and autoimmunity. If you are interested in learning more about heart diseases, immunology, and autoimmune conditions, please feel free to contact Dr. Taejoon Won.
