Nathiya Vaithiyalingam Chandra Sekaran
Nathiya is a T32 Postdoctoral fellow under the guidance of Dr. Daniel Llano in the Department of Molecular and Integrative physiology. She studies the auditory network function, particularly as it relates to its changes in network properties in the auditory cortex and thalamus. She also focuses on studying vasculature of aging brain and Alzheimer’s using Super-resolution ultrasound microscopy. She hypothesizes that PCB and noise exposure will lead to synergistic pathological changes in the cerebral microvasculature and that these changes will be most severe in the auditory midbrain and forebrain, two areas known to show disruptions in cellular organization after PCB and/or noise exposure. With the current project she proposes to examine the links between developmental PCB exposure, adult noise exposure and the cerebrovascular system in a mouse model.
