Dr. Annette McCoy is an Associate Professor in Equine Surgery at the University of Illinois. She has both a clinical and research interest in equine orthopedics, particularly developmental orthopedic disease and osteoarthritis. Her primary research focus is determining the genetic risk factors involved in orthopedic disease, as well as performance and gait in horses.

Emergency Coaptation of Lower Limb Injuries in Horses

Emergency coaptation is a critical step in stabilization of traumatic injuries of the lower limbs in horses. This session will review initial examination and therapy for musculoskeletal emergencies, selection and application of appropriate external coaptation, and attributes of injuries that may contribute to prognosis.
