Signalment and history:

A 60 lb, 18 month old female mixed breed dog is presented to you because she was unwilling to use the right rear limb. The dog is a livestock guard dog that had been missing for 4 days.

Abdominal radiographs were suggestive of retroperitoneal hemorrhage. An excretory urogram showed an avulsion of the left kidney and ureter. Thoracic radiographs were within normal limits. The owners are willing to do whatever is necessary to treat the dog. The are concerned about their ability to confine the dog after surgery.
