Beginning January 9, all Vet Med Faculty and Staff that have existing phone numbers will be activated to use Unified Communications via the Microsoft Lync application. Faculty and Staff that currently lack office phone numbers, along with graduate and professional students, will be activated to use Lync at a later date. Computing Services will be installing the Lync software on necessary computers prior to January 9. The Vet Med UC Coordinators group is working to identify UC device (headsets and handsets) needs, procurement and distribution.
Why is this happening?
Computing Services would like to announce an improved way for Vet Med Students to access both Vetstar and PACS systems from their personal computers. With this new method students will be able to utilize their own computers to connect to a service that has Vetstar and PACS available without needing to first download these programs. Additionally, Mac users will be able to use this service without needing to install Windows on their computers.
Over the break, Computing Services has upgraded the audiovisual system in room 2251 Basic Science Building. A new audio system will allow for better volume adjustments for the microphones, eliminate feedback, and improve audio quality on lecture capture recordings. A new projector and projection screen installed in the center of the room will show a larger, brighter image and improve color reproduction of virtual microscopy slides. In addition, a new touchscreen control panel was installed on the podium, replacing the push-button control panel.
Due to staff limitations, extended support for personally-owned computer equipment and accessories will not be available at the Computing Services Help Desk during Winter Break (Dec 23, 2013 - January 17, 2014). Extended Service Walk-In hours, normally held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5:30p, will also not be available. The following types of assistance are still being offered by appointment only:
- Connecting to University wireless networks (IllinoisNet, UIUCnet, VPN)
- Configuration of University email for computer and mobile phone clients
Vet Med faculty and staff are responsible for ordering ink, toner and other supplies for their individual office printers effective 12/1/2010. Departmental staff will be responsible for ordering these items for department office printers. Printer supplies can be purchased through one of two methods:
- iBuy punch-outs (CDW-G, OfficeMax, HP, Dell)
There is an alternative method to accessing Histology virtual microscopy aside from visiting slidehosting.com. You can download Image Scope Viewer and then access the individual slides from the cvm-ad file servers. Read below for details.
Download Aperio’s FREE ImageScope Viewer
[This is was an informational email sent to all DVM students regarding CVM-AD accounts]
Currently, the majority of DVM students are utilizing their UIUC campus ad accounts to access workstations throughout the college by selecting UIUC from the drop down menu instead of CVM-AD. Your campus UIUC ad account does allow you to logon to the workstations and release print jobs in the CVM computer labs but does not grant the same access as your CVM-AD account.
CVM-AD Passwords and Account Privileges
There have been an increased number of visits throughout the day and during extended Help Desk walk-in hours from DVM students regarding assistance with installing the Carestream PACS Internet Explorer plug-in. In order to reduce the amount of traffic regarding this issue to the Help Desk and also to allow teaching cases to be assigned in an efficient manner please attempt to install the required plug-in prior to your Imaging (radiology or ultrasound) rotation.
Walk-in (Drop off) Service is limited to the times below:
Tuesday and Thursday 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM
