MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Earlier this month our college held the spotlight at the annual meeting of the University of Illinois Foundation. Donors attending learned about our new Clinical Skills Learning Center, and many came for a tour.

In a very real way, you were there too. That’s because Illinois veterinarians were featured for their roles in recent gifts to the college totaling over $4 million.

•     Dr. Shelly Rubin (DVM IL ’68), and his wife, Paulette Rubin, were recognized for their generous bequest to establish the Sheldon B. and Paulette Rubin Endowed Professorship in Veterinary Leadership and Communication as well as a seminar series at the college.
•     Two other large gifts to our college were facilitated by veterinarians who put their grateful clients in touch with us: Dr. Dwight Boehm (DVM IL ’87) and Dr. Liz Vollmer (DVM OH ’84) of Waterloo, Ill., connected us with Lou Mund, a successful businessman from that area. Dr. Joseph Busch (DVM IL ’79) and Dr. Kurt Klepitsch (DVM IL ’88) of St. Charles, Ill., led devoted dog lovers Bob and Jeanie Gernon to us.
•     A sizeable gift to our hospital and Chicago center from Len Lewicki, a lawyer in Sequim, Wash., who graduated from the University of Illinois, was also announced at the meeting.

We are deeply grateful to the Rubins for their unstinting commitment to veterinary education, and to all our alumni who give to the college and who remember us when their clients express a desire to further the veterinary profession.

Thank you, for all you are doing to support our students and programs. To discuss other ways to help, please contact Brenda Betts at 217-333-5545 or me at dean@vetmed.illinois.edu.

Video clips from the UI Foundation's 75th Annual Meeting, available on our College Facebook site, tell the story behind these recent gifts made to the College of Veterinary Medicine.
