Adaptations and Resource Use: Predator vs. Prey

Animals that are carnivores (and some omnivores) must hunt their food. These hunters are called predators, and the animals or insects they hunt are called prey. Predator-prey relationships are important parts of the food chain.

 

Animals that are carnivores (and some omnivores) must hunt their food. These hunters are called predators, and the animals or insects they hunt are called prey. Predator-prey relationships are important parts of called food web. A food web describes how all the species in an ecosystem need other species for food. It shows the complex relationships between species in the ecosystem. If one species in the food web is lost or unhealthy, the entire food web is harmed. Look at the image below for an example of a food web.
