Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory

Clinical Pathology

[slide of transitional cell carcinoma]The clinical pathology laboratory provides routine blood analysis for our referring veterinarian clientele and the veterinarians of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.  We have a variety of tests to offer like complete blood cell count, chemistry analysis, urinalysis, coagulation profiles, blood gas analysis, crossmatch, endocrine testing and cytologies. Same day consultation with veterinary clinical pathologists is also available. The lab results aid our clients in the medical treatment of their patients.

Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Veterinary Specialty Center (VDL at VSC), a satellite clinical pathology laboratory available to all veterinarians, is located within Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove, Ill. It provides most of the same tests performed in the Urbana clinical pathology laboratory with the same excellent customer service and is overseen by a boarded clinical pathologist.

  • The Clinical Pathology Laboratory is a full-service laboratory that provides diagnostic testing to the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital, referring veterinarians, and researchers. We are able to analyze samples from multiple species, including domestic animals (canine, feline, equine, ruminants, etc.), zoo animals, avian and reptiles, and wildlife.

The laboratory is staffed by a full-time pathologist and five full-time medical technologists with over 126 years of combined experience.
