Illinois Farmer Today (July 27) – Federico Zuckermann, a professor of immunology at University of Illinois and chief executive officer of Aptimmune Biologics Inc., also discovered the basis of his future business while doing university research. His team developed the cell line of a vaccine for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) but couldn’t get the funding to make it a vaccine. “PRRS is a very demoralizing disease for the farmer and the veterinarian. It is costly and hard for the producers,” Zuckermann said.
