Grand Prairie Animal Hospital is located in Manhattan, IL and will celebrate its 20th Anniversary as the “town vet” coming up in 2025. We are a growing hospital that is looking for an associate veterinarian to join our team, to be a part of our hospital history and most importantly, our future!

Manhattan is a developing town that provides the perfect balance between suburban and rural life. Currently at a population of nearly 10,000, Manhattan is growing year after year with new neighborhoods being actively built. Despite its growth, Manhattan still maintains a small town, family-friendly atmosphere that you would expect from a Midwest town. Located in Will County, situated about 50 miles southwest of Chicago and 10 miles southeast of Joliet, Manhattan is the best part of Illinois. Boasting typical suburban neighborhoods, charming small town homes, townhouses, elegant estates and sprawling rural properties, Manhattan, along with our other surrounding communities, provide many options for those looking to call it home. A new downtown/city center coming in the immediate future will provide shopping, dining and entertainment locally. For those needing big city adventures and cultural engagement, a short train ride on the Metra line will allow exploration of all that Chicago and Joliet have to provide. For the persons wanting a more outdoor lifestyle, Manhattan boasts multiple parks that allow for bicycling, outdoor sports, jogging, water sports nearby as well as being situated alongside the Wauponsee Glacial trail that provides access into the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie and numerous other outdoor activities.

Grand Prairie Animal Hospital is proud to have been able to provide care for our patients over the last 20 years; having enjoyed caring for them like family from their first days as playful puppies and kittens all the way through to their final days as senior pets. We strive to provide the individual care for our patients that is expected of a small town veterinary hospital, along with high level quality and modern medicine. We are a locally owned and independently veterinarian-owned hospital, staffed with experienced team members who have decades of combined experience. Grand Prairie is equipped with state of the art equipment, including: DR 50 digital radiography, Companion Laser, Cardell anesthesia monitoring equipment and Isoflurane vaporizers, Securos orthopedic surgical equipment, IM3 dental machine and digital dental radiography. Clarius handheld ultrasound. We have also partnered with a company to provide diagnostic ultrasound imaging for our patients. Having Idexx In-House chemistry and CBC analyzers as well as Idexx’s full laboratory services, we are able to provide point of care as well as complete laboratory services for our patients. We are a computerized hospital utilizing Cornerstone as our medical record software and Idexx PACs system. We provide complete medical and surgical care to our patients from Wellness/ preventative medicine through dermatology, dentistry all the way to some orthopedic surgery, including TPLO’s and fracture repair. We are open 5 days a week and half day on Saturdays. Although we do provide emergency care and hospitalization to our patients, all overnight and after hours care is provided by the multiple, local emergency clinics. The practice owner and solo veterinarian, Dr. McMahon, has been a veterinarian for 20 years and is the proud owner of Grand Prairie Animal Hospital, having taken ownership from our founding doctor in 2021. He has worked at multiple hospitals throughout the Chicagoland area and has held multiple job titles including: associate vet, relief and emergency vet, partner of a multi-doctor hospital and chief of staff. Dr. McMahon has developed a passion for preventative care, dentistry, orthopedic surgery and has attained certification as a rehabilitation practitioner. Along with his medical interests, he also enjoys educating and developing new veterinarians, having mentored numerous veterinarians over his 20 year career.

As our community is growing, we are expanding into a multiple doctor hospital. We are looking for motivated, knowledgeable, hard working individuals that are passionate about providing high level, quality veterinary medicine to our community. New graduates are welcomed at the hospital with mentorship and a chance to develop their own practice style and abilities. Given our hospital’s experienced staff, an individual will be able to develop and hone their skills at a comfortable pace. We believe that we have a purpose in life and our purpose at Grand Prairie Animal Hospital is to provide the best care possible to our community’s pets. We also believe in refueling that purpose with life outside of work and provide for that with reasonable work hours, time off including some weekends and vacation time.
