Dr. Justin Fehr and family

Dr. Justin Fehr began working as a clinical instructor for Primary Care South Clinic in March of 2020.

When did you begin working at the College of Veterinary Medicine?
March 2020

Describe your role at the college.
I’m a clinical instructor in small animal care at Primary Care South Clinic. Here I guide and mentor clinical year vet student through cases and surgeries they will likely see in general practice.

Have you held any previous titles or responsibilities at the college?
No, this is my first employment at the University.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I really like educating and helping students prepare for the shift from student to doctor. I want them as prepared as possible for their first day as a veterinarian.

Complete this sentence: My most memorable day at work was…
My most memorable day at work would have to be my very first day. My first day was the day the University (along with the entire state) shut down due to Covid-19. A memorable first day to say the least.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? What is something your co-workers may be surprised to know about you?
I’m a country boy at heart and enjoy mostly anything outdoors, especially fishing and hiking. Most people are surprised to know that most of my clinical experience is actually in large animal medicine, focusing mainly on bovine and swine.

Do you have a favorite restaurant or place in the Champaign/Urbana area?
This is a hard one since there are so many good options. If I had to choose just one, I would have to go with Black Dog Smokehouse.

Do you have any pets?
Yes! I have a sassy 5-year-old female tabby cat named Bella.

Which is your favorite, orange or blue?
For some reason I like the combination of the two (LOL), but I would say I usually lean towards Blue.

How would you describe the community of the College of Veterinary Medicine?
I would describe the community as close-knit and passionate. It’s a group of likeminded people that strive to provide the best quality care for their patients and clients alike.
