Miranda Vieson, clinical assistant professor of pathobiology, has been with the College of Veterinary Medicine since July 2016.
Using 10 words or less, describe what your role at the college is:
Diagnostic service (necropsy, biopsy, forensics), collaborative research, and teaching students and residents about pathology and how awesome it is.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The students, my colleagues, and the challenge of solving complicated cases. I’m still constantly learning despite being done with school!
Complete this sentence: My most memorable day at work was….
My first day on necropsy service. I got slammed with lots of cases—all of which were exotic animal species. Context: I had minimal to no exposure to zoo pathology in my training (aside from lectures and digital training materials shared from other institutions), so it was a bit of a surprise for me.
What would your coworkers be surprised to learn about your life outside of work?
Most people are surprised to learn that I own tiny (3- and 7-pound) dogs. It seems that most people would expect me to own a Labrador Retriever or equivalent. I love photography and artsy DIY projects. I also occasionally work at a mobile vaccine and preventive health clinic for dogs and cats, so I get to work with live animals from time to time.
Do you have any pets?
I have two adorable, spoiled, Maltese dogs named Pebbles and Bam Bam (they’re littermates).
