show listTeaching Statement

Due the changing nature of medicine and science, fundamentally, my philosophy in teaching professional students and house officers is to instill a sense of lifelong learning.  I hope to infuse excitement that encourages our veterinary colleagues to continue to learn, practice and grow professionally throughout their lives.  Another fundamental goal in the classroom and clinic floor is to foster an environment of collegiality, respect, and fun, where students feel valued.  They need to feel comfortable taking the risk to ask questions and to have the opportunity for self-discovery.

Additionally, I hope to encourage students to continue to have enthusiasm and passion for our profession as a reminder of what brought them to the veterinary profession in the first place.   By understanding their purpose, our colleagues can help foster their resilience to combat current and/or future burnout and professional dissatisfaction.   We are fortunate that society holds veterinarians in high regard as one of the most respected professions.  In addition, members of the veterinary team look at the doctors, including associate veterinarians, as the leaders on the clinic floor.  With that purview, I hope to guide students and house officers to learn how to develop a leaders who are respectful and compassionate to all members of the veterinary team.
