Cancer Care Clinic: Treatments
Medical oncology involves the use of medical drugs to kill the cancer cells. Most often this is in the form of chemotherapy or immunotherapy.
Surgical oncology is the removal and reconstruction of a localized area of cancer tissues.
Radiation therapy has similarities to x-rays, with a much higher energy level. Radiation is used to kill the DNA of cancer cells. It is often used prior to surgery to shrink large tumors for increased surgical removal and after surgeries to kill any remaining cancer cells.
