Vetstar GUI Client Installation
- Supported operating systems are Windows 2000/XP/Vista. Please select the correct installer for your operating system.
- Installing on Vista is done in two steps. The second step includes running an installer specific to 32-Bit or 64-Bit Vista.
- Mac users can run Vetstar on Parallels.
Windows 2000 or XP:
Click on the following link to download and run the Vetstar client installation file on Windows 2000 or XP.
Windows Vista:
Click here to download a copy of these instructions (Microsoft Word format).
- Click on the following link to download and install PROIV Client version 6.1:
PROIV_Client_6.1.64.0_Setup.exe
Do NOT change its default installation directory.
- When the PROIV Client install is complete, download and run one the following installers:

Connecting to Vetstar:
- You must use one of the following encrypted, secure connection methods before you can access Vetstar:
- WPA2: If you are accessing Vetstar using the wireless network within the UI Veterinary Medicine complex, use the WPA2 connection to securely connect to the Vetstar server. Visit http://cites.illinois.edu/wireless/wpa2/index.html for information on setting up WPA2 on your computer.
- VPN: If you are accessing Vetstar from outside the University of Illinois campus network, run the CITES VPN (Virtual Private Network) client. See http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/vpn/index.html for instructions on installing and running the VPN client.
- The first time you use Vetstar, you will be prompted by the Windows firewall to unblock the PROIV program (“Client ActiveX Document Server”). Please proceed with unblocking it.
- Every time you use the program, please wait about 10 seconds for the connection to be completed (wait for the Vetstar ‘login:’ prompt to appear before you type your login and password).
