Governor Proclaims Pet Memorial Day
Organizers of the C.A.R.E. pet grief helpline arranged for Illinois Governor Jim Edgar to proclaim September 3 "Pet Memorial Day." The proclamation reads, in part, "the loss of your companion animal can create an immeasurable void in your life and, understandably, in your heart;
by sharing your feelings of grief and seeking ways to memorialize your pets you can bring a sense of closure."
Every first Sunday in September has been proposed nationally as a day to remember companion animals that have died. Veterinary practices may wish to acknowledge the day in future years. For ideas, you may call the grief helpline at 217/244-CARE (217/244-2273).
