In Memoriam
Dr. Arthur Bottorff (’54), of Chatham, Ill., died on April 17.
He served in the Naval Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He founded the Sang
Lo Veterinary Clinic in William-sville, Ill. He held office in the Illinois
State Veterinary Medical Association, the Illinois Academy of Veterinary
Medicine, the Central Illinois VMA, and the Greater Springfield VMA. In
Williamsville he served on the village board of trustees, the school board,
and the water commission. He also served on the state licensing and disciplinary
board.
Dr. John Ehrhardt (’53), of McNabb, Ill., died on March 1. After
serving in World War II, he completed his veterinary studies at Illinois
and began practicing in McNabb after graduation. From 1953 till 1996 he
was the animal control administrator in Putnam County. He was also a long-time
member of the McNabb Volunteer Fire Department, a village trustee, and
a board member of the high school and the local counseling center. He had
five children, one of whom, John, is a veterinarian (Illinois ’83).
Dr. Jayne Hoagland (’69), of Spokane, Wash., died on February
26. She had a large animal practice for 10 years in New York State, then
became a pilot and later a flight inspector. Since 1997 she has worked
with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Dr. James Scott (’59) died May 14 in Urbana, Ill. He was well
known for his work in reproductive physiology and a pioneer of cryogenetics,
freezing semen and using artificial insemination to improve breeds. He
studied classical music at Millikin University; served in the Army Veterinary
Corps for 4 years; and studied physiology and veterinary medicine at Columbia
University before completing his degree at Illinois.
Dr. Glen Sedlacek (Iowa ’44), who died on April 19, had practiced
veterinary medicine in Plainfield and Lisle, Illinois, for nearly 55 years.
Dr. Sedlacek was active in organized veterinary medicine at the local,
state, and national level, receiving the Northern Illinois State VMA Veterinarian
of the Year in 1971.
Dr. David Stevens III (Michigan ’42), a veterinarian for more
than 50 years in the Mount Morris, Illinois, area, died on May 14.
Dr. Joseph Theyerl (Ohio ’52), a long-time Rockford veterinarian,
died May 12.
Dr. Lionel Wanduragala, vice president of research and development
at Protatek Laboratories, died February 19 in Minneapolis, Minn. In 1990
Dr. Wanduragala completed a Ph.D. in veterinary pathobiology, working under
Dr. Miodrag Ristic.
Dr. Herbert Wessels (Iowa ’36), past president of the Illinois
State VMA, died on April 18. He had operated a veterinary hospital in Geneva,
Illinois, from 1938 to 1960 and served as Kane County veterinarian from
1960 to 1970.
Dr. Jan Wolf (’78), of Kenosha, Wisconsin, died March 19. He
practiced in Long Lake, Minnesota, for a year after graduation. He then
moved to Kenosha, practicing there until his death. In 1982 he built Wolf
Animal Hospital. Dr. Wolf was a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary
Practitioners, a member of the advisory board of Veterinary Economics magazine,
and president of the Southeastern Wisconsin VMA.
