Fox Illinois (Feb. 26) – A semi carrying 178 pigs shut down part of Interstate 57 Monday morning. Three pigs escaped the trailer and at least six had to be euthanized. University of Illinois vet med responded to the scene to help transfer the pigs and make sure they were okay.

“Our role really is just to make sure the pigs can get up and move around, we don’t have any broken bones,” veterinarian Ben Blair said. “There’s a lot of broken bones in these situations. You also see some suffocation when the pigs pile on top of each other, So our role is just to get here and get things moved off the trailer as soon as possible.”
