Welcome to Surgery Club 2017!

Happy New Year!

Here’s a quick recap of Fall 2016:
We had quite a busy semester with lectures and 3 major wet labs, including a new GI wet lab to finish Quarter 2 off. For lectures we started the year off with a packed intro meeting, a joint dinner lecture by Dr. Vladimir Jekl about small animal spay and neuter, and an exotic and small mammal surgical techniques lecture by Dr. Welle. Below are the pictures from the suture basics wet lab, 2nd year ophthalmology wet lab, and 3rd year GI wet lab.

10/27/16 – Suture Basics with Dr. McNeil

Great turn out and a perfect 1:1 ratio of limbs to students. This year, we were able to get the live demo to show up on the anatomy screens to aid in viewing the patterns.

11/02/16 – 2nd Year Ophthalmology Wet Lab with Dr. Martins and the Ophthalmology Department

A wonderful lecture by Dr. Martins and wet lab involving 6 surgical procedures (temporary tarsorrhaphy, temporary eyelid tack, entropion repair, full thickness eyelid resection, retrobulbar block, and ennucleation).

11/17/16 – 3rd Year GI Wet Lab with Dr. Moran and Dr. Corrie

A small, focused group of mostly 3rd year with a handful of 2nd year students working with canine abdominal cavities. We learned about GDV/gastropexy, gastronomy, and enterotomy techniques.

Preview of the upcoming Spring Semester…

Definitely: 1st Year Declaw Wet Lab (2/16/17), lunch lectures
Maybe: 2nd Year Spay & Neuter, Equine GI, new labs!

Hope you had a great break and we look forward to seeing you again!

Ruminant Abdominal Surgery Lecture

On Monday, October 26th at noon, Surgery Club is hosting a ruminant abdominal surgery lecture in the anatomy lab! Dr. Ramirez will have preserved specimens and props to take us through the decision to do abdominal surgery, the surgery itself, and the selection of the correct tools and procedures. The lecture will go until about 12:40 so there will still be time to grab lunch before class.

RSVP by Friday, October 23rd @ 3PMClick here to RSVP!
